Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) ended Thursday’s session in the green, but only registered a marginal rise of no more than 2 points amid weak turnover compared to Wednesday’s session.
The Tadawul All Shares Index (TASI) edged up 0.03% or 1.86 points and closed at 6,969.26 points, thus failing, for the second session in a row, to surpass the level of 7,000 points.
The index last traded above 7,000 points for 12 sessions between 23 January and 7 February.
Turnover fell 18.72% on Thursday to SAR 3.59 billion ($960 million) compared to Wednesday’s SAR 4.42 billion ($1.18 billion). Similarly, traded volume retreated 24.96% to 189.28 million shares traded against 252.24 million.
Traded volume is 10.42% below the weekly average per session of this, which is around 211.3 million shares, as well as 18.64% below the monthly average of 232.65 million shares.
Meanwhile, turnover is 8.69% below the weekly average of SAR 3.93 billion and 15.9% below the monthly average per session of SAR 4.27 billion.
A total of 8 sectors declined at the end of trading on Thursday, led by food & staples, consumer services and banks, with 0.78%, 0.55% and 0.38%, respectively, whereas 13 sectors ended the session up, led by commercial services and investment funds, which gained 2.32% and 1.27%, respectively.
By the end of the session, 74 stocks ended in the green, while 87 ended down and 9 remained unchanged.
Tihama Advertising, ACIG and L’azurde were the top gainers, rising 8.21%, 4.92% and 3.91%, respectively, whereas Al Ahlia Insurance, National Care and Walaa Insurance were the top fallers, shedding 4.76%, 3.72% and 3.49%, respectively.
