TASI slumps 315 pts in Q3; market cap falls SAR 83bn

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Stock Exchange’s Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) plunged 314.65 points, or 3.78%, to close the third quarter of 2018 at 7,999.5 points.

Market capitalisation retreated SAR 82.79 billion ($22.08 billion), to finish the three-month period at SAR 1.899 trillion ($506.5 billion).

The bourse’s traded value tumbled 25.6% to SAR 177.2 billion ($47.26 billion) in the July-September period of this year, compared to SAR 238.3 billion ($63.5 billion) a quarter earlier.

In July, TASI registered the highest trading value with SAR 73.2 billion in Q3-18, while it stood at SAR 54.3 billion and SAR 49.8 billion in August and September, respectively.

The utilities sector levelled down 21.95% in Q3-18, followed by the telecommunication services, materials, and banking sectors with 4.1%, 2.8%, and 0.2%, respectively.

On the other hand, the media sector increased by 1.2%.

In September

The Saudi bourse's benchmark surged 51.29 points, or 0.65%, to close at 7,999.5 points in September.

Market capitalisation inched up SAR 6.2 billion, or 0.33%, to SAR 1.899 billion in the previous month, while it recorded SAR 209.9 billion ($55.98 billion) in the January-September period. 

TASI added 773.2 points, or 10.7%, during the first nine months of this year.

The main market’s traded volume stood at 28.68 billion shares, generating a turnover of SAR 652.8 billion in the nine-month period.
