Dubai-Mubasher: National Central Cooling Co (Tabreed) reduced the amount of energy utilized for cooling in the GCC by 1.3 billion kilowatt hours during 2015, which is the enough electricity to power around 44,000 homes in the UAE every year, according to a bourse filing on Wednesday.
Achieved by employing district cooling instead of conventional air conditioning, this reduction in energy consumption prevented the release into the atmosphere of over 650,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
District cooling benefits from significant energy efficiencies compared to conventional air conditioning, including approximately a 50% reduction in energy consumption, according to the United Nations Environment Programme.
