UAE - Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Waste Management Centre (Tadweer) has inaugurated its expanded used tire recycling facility in Abu Dhabi to ensure the safe disposal of used tires.
Operated in strategic partnership with the private sector, the facility has a capacity to treat 70,000 tonnes of used tires per year and has recycled around 17,000 tonnes of tires since the beginning of 2020.
To improve the facility's performance, Tadweer has partnered with Abu Dhabi-based Tarheel Collecting Wastes to collect and clean used tires before their recycling and treatment at the facility.
In collaboration with its Italian partner, Tarheel has established a new integrated automated plant to raise the capacity of the facility to 100,000 tonnes per year.
The Director General of Tadweer, Salem Al Kaabi, commented: "In addition to reducing the adverse effects of scrap tires on public health and the environment, the expanded facility will go a long way in saving energy and cutting related costs."
Al Kaabi added: "Tadweer will continue to utilize the latest recycling technologies and global best practices to achieve its goal of safeguarding public health, preserving the environment, and supporting the sustainable development of Abu Dhabi."
