Taqnia completes Saudi Arabia’s 1st solar power station

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Technology Development and Investment Company (TAQNIA) announced completing the first phase of its Layla solar power plant.

Spanning 720,000 square metres, the production capacity of the facility’s first phase amounts to ten megawatts.

Layla is the first independent solar power station tied up to the national electricity grid, Taqnia said in a statement, adding that the project can cover 10% Al-Aflaj region’s needs.

“The completion of works in such a project is a source of pride to us all, especially that it coincides with Saudi Arabia witnessing a prominent international presence in all fields,” Layla project’s head Waleed al-Helayel said.

The investment cost of the project was not disclosed.

Layla’s project resulted from a collaboration between Taqnia Energy– a subsidiary of Taqnia, the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), and the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).
