Tatweer wins tender to save 900m kWh in Abu Dhabi

UAE – Mubasher: The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abu Dhabi has awarded the UAE’s Tatweer for Traffic Assets and Systems Operation and Management a 12-year tender.

The contract reads that Tatweer will replace around 43,000 streetlights with energy-efficient LED lights in Abu Dhabi to save approximately 900 million kWh energy worth around AED 264 million, according to a press release on Sunday.

This tender is the UAE’s first street lighting replacement project to be carried out through a public-private partnership model.

The director general of Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Saif Badr Al Qubaisi, said: “This long-term partnership with Tatweer will help us achieve greater project efficiencies while delivering enhanced infrastructure and services to Abu Dhabi’s residents.”

Meanwhile, the director general of the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), Tariq Bin Hendi, remarked: “As the focal point for facilitating public-private partnership projects in Abu Dhabi, we work with government departments to deliver infrastructure with an emphasis on sustainability, quality and opening up new opportunities for the private sector.

The project is part of the government’s commitment to secure around AED 10 billion infrastructure projects through public-private partnerships.
