Technical problem hits Manifa oilfield – Reuters

Riyadh – Mubasher: The output of Manifa oilfield, a subsidiary of Saudi Arabian Oil Co (Saudi Aramco), was hit by a technical problem, the International Oil Daily said on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources, according to Reuters.

“It was unclear how much production was removed as a result of corrosion of the water injection system used to maintain pressure in the reservoir,” Reuters added, citing the oil publication.

"Corrosion control in the water injection system is not a technical challenge but it can be expensive to repair the water injection lines. They will probably … shut down the field for maintenance," former executive vice president at Aramco Sadad Al Husseini told Reuters.

The losses may reach millions of US dollars, the agency added, quoting sources as saying.

The Saudi oilfield has a production capacity of 900,000 barrels per day (bpd) and is located in the territorial water of Saudi Arabia.

Aramco recorded an output of 10.5 million bpd in 2016.
