Three int’l consortiums race for constructing dry port in Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt’s finance ministry on Sunday announced that three consortia comprised of German, Singaporean, Indian, Emirati, and Egyptian firms are competing to win the construction of a dry port in the industrial zone in the 6th of October city.

The dry port project is expected to be implemented with over $100 million in investments, the ministry said in a statement.

The alliances include a consortium led by Container India and comprises Egypt’s Hassan Allam Group and Singapore’s PSA Corporation Limited, a consortium headed by Dubai-based DP World in partnership with Holding Co for Maritime and Land Transport, the ministry added.

Additionally, a consortium led by Elsewedy Electric and includes Germany’s DB Schenker and 3A International, the ministry said.

The project will be set up under the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme, according to the statement.

The ministry noted that the three consortiums are qualified to establish the project, which will be built over 100 acres in the 6th of October city.

The new port, and the logistic centre expected to be built, will offer a number of jobs, the finance ministry noted.

Under a 30-year contract, the winner consortium will execute and operate the project, the statement highlighted, adding that the port’s management will be delivered to the Egyptian government after that period.

In November, Egypt’s Cabinet had approved the construction of a 100-acre dry port in the 6th of October city.
