Mubasher: Tokyo stocks continued their downward trend for the second straight day on negative economic data.
The state's annual monetary base declined to 29.5% in 2015, compared with 32.5% a year earlier, said the Bank of Japan (BOJ) in a statement on Tuesday.
The yen declined to 119.27 per dollar, its lowest since 15 October 2015.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 76.98 points, or 0.42%, from Monday at 18,374.00, a roughly 10-week closing low.
The broader Topix index finished 4.96 points, or 0.33%, lower at 1,504.71.
