Mubasher: The UAE tourism sector’s contribution to the GDP increased by 11.1% year-on-year to AED 164.7 billion in 2018, Ministry of Economy’s under-secretary for foreign trade affairs, Abdullah Al Saleh, stated, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).
Tourism contribution to the GCC country’s GDP is expected to grow by 3.9% annually until 2029, injecting AED 249.5 billion, the top official added.
"The sector's contribution to the UAE labour market hit 9.6% in 2018, creating 611,500 job opportunities," Al Saleh said.
Al Saleh noted that the number of jobs created will increase by 2.8% in 2019, reaching 628,000.
"Tourism's contribution to the UAE job market is estimated to increase 1.8% annually, creating up to 753,000 job openings by 2029, which equals 10.3% of the total jobs in UAE," the top official revealed.
Moreover, he stated that the value of tourism investments injected in the UAE during 2018 amounted to AED 26.4 billion, adding that the figure is expected to hit AED 61.2 billion by 2029.
