Cairo – Mubasher: The number of tourists visiting Egypt jumped 51% during the first four months of 2017, compared to the same period last year, the chairman of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority Hisham Al Demiri stated.
The number of tourists from Ukraine, the Czech Republic, and Poland surged 100% during the period from January to April 2017, compared to the year-ago period, Al Demiri said in a statement released by the Ministry of Tourism.
Meanwhile, the number of German tourists rose 50% year-on-year, while the number of tourists from Italy and the UK increased 30% and 20%, respectively.
Al Demiri said that the increase in the number of tourists was driven by advertising campaigns aimed at improving Egypt’s image in eleven markets since September 2016.
Campaigns are allocated $22 million per year; however, the authority only spent $9 million at the beginning of 2017, as studies emphasise the need to focus on the winter season, the authority’s chairman revealed.
According to previous data, the number of tourists during the first three months of 2017 levelled up 51% year-on-year.
Egypt's minister of tourism had previously predicted a recovery in the country’s tourism sector by the end of 2017, noting that the ministry is aiming to attract about 10 million tourists.
