Traffic accidents in Egypt fall 24% in FY18 - CAPMAS

Cairo – Mubasher: Traffic collision in Egypt declined by 23.6% year-on-year in fiscal year 2018, data by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed.

The number of traffic collisions amounted to 8,480 accidents last year, compared to 11,000 collisions in 2017, the CAPMAS highlighted in a report on Sunday.

This resulted in 3,087 deaths, 11,800 casualties, and 13,400 damaged vehicles, according to the report.

CAPMAS attributed the drop in traffic accidents to the government’s efforts to upgrade roads and achieve the objectives of sustainable development.

Meanwhile, the nation saw 2,044 train crashes in 2018, up 14% from 1,793 crashes in 2017, resulting in 48 deaths and 140 casualties, the state-run statistics authority noted.
