Cairo – Mubasher: US President Donald Trump has nominated the US representative to the United Nations (UN), Jonathan Cohen, to act as the US ambassador to Egypt.
Cohen was appointed as deputy assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian Affairs for Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey during the period between 2016 and 2018, according to a statement from the White House.
He also served as the deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Cyprus from the period between 2008 and 2011, as well as in Iraq from 2013 to 2016.
The US has no ambassador to Egypt since 2017 after Robert Beecroft finished his term of office.
It is worth noting that Thomas Goldberger had been acting as the chief of mission and chargé d'affaires of the US in Egypt since June 2017.
