Trump policies may weaken trade, FDI – Moody’s

Mubasher: President-Elect Donald Trump's campaign proposals show that a possible shift may happen in policies that could affect trade, foreign direct investment (FDI), and immigration.

The nature of policies under the next US (Aaa stable) administration is uncertain, Moody’s said in a report.

Such proposed tightened immigration rules in the US would over time dampen growth in remittances from foreign workers, which are significant for some economies in Latin America and Asia Pacific.

If demand from the US were to slow markedly as a result of a shift in government policies, international and intraregional trade would amplify the economic impact. However, Moody’s said the probability of this scenario to be very low.
