Trump’s plans, Fed’s March decision to affect GCC markets

By: Mahmoud Gamal

Mubasher: The Gulf stock markets are expected to continue their sideways-to-bearish trend in March, amid anticipations of US Donald Trump’s plan for corporate tax reform and the Federal Reserve’s decision on interest rates, analysts told Mubasher.

Changes in global trade policies will have an impact on stock markets in the GCC, especially in the UAE and Qatar, vice president of the investment research department at KAMCO Raed Diab told Mubasher.

The possible interest rate hike in March, due to higher inflation figures in January, may also affect the GCC stocks on the short-term, and have a positive impact on the region's banks, Diab noted.

The market’s low liquidity will push small traders to be cautions and not to increase their positions, capital market analyst Mohamed Al Azmi told Mubasher.
