Mubasher: American President Donald Trump is currently considering five candidates, from which he will choose the next chair of the US Federal Reserve early next month, CNBC reported on Tuesday.
Trump is likely to announce his pick before going to Asia on 3 November, said the news network.
On Thursday, Trump has an interview scheduled with current chair Janet Yellen, whose term expires in February.
She is one of the five candidates, and her interview will be the last Trump conducts before making his decision.
Other candidates for the position include Trump’s chief economic adviser, Gary Cohn, former Federal Reserve governor Kevin Warsh, Federal governor Jerome Powell, and Stanford University economist John Taylor.
Reuters reported earlier that Jerome Powell will likely be the next Federal Reserve chairman, according to a slim majority of economists in a recent poll by the news agency.
The majority of the polled experts believe the current holder of the position, Janet Yellen would be the best option, Reuters noted.
Jerome Powell is a lawyer and former investment banker, and he has served as a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors since May 2012, the news agency noted.
The next most likely choice was Kevin Warsh, who served as a Federal Reserve governor during the financial crisis.
