A total of 12 tugs have been working since yesterday, Rabie revealed in a statement on Sunday, noting that two additional tugs will arrive on Sunday to move the Ever Given container ship that has blocked the waterway since Tuesday, 23 March.

He confirmed that the SCA removed about 27,000 cubic metres of sand around the ship’s bow at a depth of 18 metres.

The 224,000 tonne-vessel, which has a length of 400 metres and a width of 59 metres, was hit by a sandstorm and high winds gusting at about 40 knots.
