U.S. Feb seen raising rates twice in 2016, says El-Erian

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The U.S. Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates twice this year, said U.S. businessman and economist Mohamed El-Erian.

The statement came during El-Erian’s participation at a conference in Abu Dhabi.

The continued strong growth of the U.S. economy will give room for the Fed to raise policy rates, he noted.

“The U.S. economy is stable and continues to grow,” the economist said.

In late 2015, the U.S. Fed raised interest rates for the first time since 2006, which prompted central banks across the global to follow suit.
