UAE, Ireland to strengthen economic ties, says Al Mansouri

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Bilateral economic and trade ties between the UAE and Ireland have witnessed remarkable improvement and there is a capability for more cooperation based on mutual interest, said Minister of Economy Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri.

The statement came during a meeting with Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Charles Flanagan.

Al Mansouri also said non-oil bilateral trade volume between both countries reached $ 466.6 million in 2014. He added that, in spite of the continuous growth, the numbers do not reflect the great potentials and level of relations between the two countries.

Al Mansouri said that the UAE is seeking to further enhance its competitiveness by building a knowledge based economy by focusing on research and development. He noted that the ministry is keen to encourage investments in SMEs considering the great contribution of this sector in the national economy as it forms 60% of the non-oil GDP of the country.

The minister stressed the importance of exchanging and sharing expertise and knowledge in relation to SMEs.
