UAE, Japan non-oil trade nears $131bn in decade

UAE – Mubasher: The total value of non-oil trade between the UAE and Japan registered AED 481.34 billion ($130.8 billion) during the period from 2009 to 2019, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported citing data from the Ministry of Economy.

Moreover, the bilateral trade value hit AED 26 billion during the first half (H1) of 2019.

Bilateral non-oil trade reached AED 54.46 billion in 2018, while the Asian country’s investment in the UAE totalled AED 14.3 billion.

Japan is one of UAE’s major trading partners, according to official records from the Emirati economy ministry and the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FCSA).

Thanks to the UAE’s attractive environment, more than 10,000 Japanese companies, agencies, and brands are based in the Arabian Gulf state. Japanese investments in the UAE are concentrated in various segments, including technology, renewable energy, transportation, healthcare, as well as wholesale and retail and the production of petrochemicals. 

Furthermore, the UAE is one of the top five oil exporters to Japan, and its non-oil exports include copper and aluminium.

In regards to tourism, the number of Japanese visitors to the UAE topped 70,000 in 2017. Meanwhile, Emiratis have been exempted from Japan's pre-entry visas in 2017.
