Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: UAE’s consumer price index (inflation) rose April by 1.63% year-on-year, according to data released on Tuesday by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority.
On a monthly basis, the index also moved up by 0.38%, the data indicated.
In this context, the cost of living index went up to 126.97 points in April 2016 against 124.94 points in April 2015.
Further, the index of food and soft drinks jumped by 3.08% year-over-year and edged up 0.32% month-on-month.
Meanwhile, the indices of beverages and tobacco, furniture and household goods, as well as transportation saw a slide of 0.11%, 0.53%, and 6.07% respectively.
“The Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the average price changes in a fixed basket of consumption goods and services commonly purchased by the National and non-National households over time. It is commonly used as a measure of consumer price inflation”, the state agency clarified.
