UAE Ministry of Energy, PwC ink deal

Cairo –Decypha:    UAE’s Ministry of Energy signed a contract with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), a service firm, to conduct a technical and economic study on the UAE's electricity sector according to  Irate News Agency.

The contract follows UAE’s clean energy strategy revealed in January, which includes a plan to invest Dhs 600 billion ($163.3 billion) to meet demand and aims to enable Dhs 700 billion ($190 billion) in efficiency savings, reported Gulf Business.

The PwC study will analyse and forecast current and future demand for power as well as plans and policies for production, both in the medium and long-term (to 2030). Covering the Emirates National Grid, the study will involve risk assessment, solution development, identification of future opportunities as well as propose recommendations to ensure future power demand will be met.

The value of the deal has not been disclosed. The study is funded by national electricity and water authorities, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, who signed the contract with officials from PwC.

Demand for energy is expected to grow by 9% annually, revealed a 2015 UAE State of Energy report.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, founded in 1849, provides assurance, tax and advisory services to clients in 158 countries with more than 223,000 employees.
