UAE MoE, FTA launch programme for VAT

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE Ministry of Economy (MoE) and The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) on Sunday launched a full-fledged programme to facilitate the implementation of the value-added tax (VAT) to protect consumers’ rights and prevent any fraud.

The cooperative programme includes measures to detect tax violations, punish violators, and increase consumers’ awareness of their rights, along with allowing economic department inspectors to verify the tax registration numbers (TRN) printed on invoices, the FTA stated.

“In partnership with the Federal Tax Authority and other stakeholders, the Ministry supports efforts made by all parties to protect consumers’ rights in accordance with UAE’s strategic vision,” said Mohammed Ahmed bin Abdul Aziz Al Shehhi, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy.

“The efforts made by the Ministry of Economy towards protecting consumers are a crucial step in establishing systematic and accurate supervision of the market,” Khalid Al Bustani, the FTA’s director general commented.
