Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE Office for Future Food Security and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company Masdar have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate for the enhancement of the national food security.
The agreement is also aimed at addressing future challenges through the development of joint initiatives that will boost the UAE capacity and competitiveness in critical sectors related to future food security, according to a company statement.
"Masdar was a natural partner, given its significant experience in developing both short-term strategic plans and long-term approaches to natural resource conservation and sustainable development,” the UAE Minister of State for Future Food Security Mariam bint Mohammed Saeed Hareb Almheiri commented.
The new MoU is based on two key initiatives to build a vertical farming container pilot project and smart home farm in Masdar City, the Emirati company revealed.
“The future of the UAE and how it sustains itself as a country is dependent on a number of factors. However, when we drill down to the basics, food security and its advancement is at the forefront,” executive director of sustainable real estate at Masdar Yousef Ahmed Baselaib said.
