UAE achieves new milestone in space

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE’s Al Yah 3, an all Ka-band communications satellite, has completed in-orbit testing successfully and is ready for operation.

Launched into space on an Ariane 5 rocket from French Guiana on 26 January, the new satellite will provide high-speed internet access to many isolated communities worldwide,The National newspaper reported.

"The success of the Yahsat satellite mission, with the participation of talented young Emiratis, embodies our vision to build a better future for UAE and humanity," Mohammed bin Zayed, crown prince of Abu Dhabi posted on Twitter.

Following the commission of Al Yah 3, Yahsat will cover 19 additional markets across Africa, covering 60% of its population, the Abu Dhabi-based newspaper added.

"We are excited by the opportunity Al Yah 3 brings in our ability to deliver reliable and affordable satellite broadband services to parts of the world that need it the most," chief executive at Yahsat Masood Mahmood said.

Al Yah 3 was manufactured by Orbital Sciences Corporation for the UAE-based satellite operator Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mubadala Development Company.
