Dubai - Mubasher: The director general of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Saif Al Suwaidi, expects travellers through the country’s airports to grow 6% in 2017.
Al Suwaidi also told reporters on the sidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) conference in Dubai that travellers are expected to reach 132 million this year.
The GCAA is planning to develop the Emirati Air traffic control by replacing the current system with an upgraded, more developed system at a cost of AED 120 million, Al Suwaidi added, noting that the call for tenders has begun, with the contract set to be signed in June and the project expected to be completed within a year.
He also revealed that the GCAA aims at establishing a centre to combat cyber-attacks, especially as the sector is becoming more reliant on the internet.
