UAE attracted AED 1tn in FDI in 2016

Mubasher: Saudi Arabia has accounted for 3.7% of foreign direct investments (FDI) in the United Arab Emirates, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported.

The data of the UAE Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Authority (FCSA) showed that FDI in the had UAE increased to AED 1.05 trillion ($285.83 billion) by the end of 2016.

The United Kingdom was the biggest investor dominating around 16.5% of the total investments, followed by India with 5.5%, the United States with 4.3%, and France with 4.1%.

As for the economic activities that lured the FDI, wholesale and retail sector came on top with 24.9%, followed by real estate with 23.8%, financial and insurance services with 19.3%, transformative industries with 9.2%, and finally the mining and quarries with 8.8%.
