Dubai – Mubasher: The aviation sector of the UAE contributed around 15% to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), director-general of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said.
The UAE has invested around AED 1 trillion ($270 billion) in the aviation sector, including improvements in airport infrastructure and a fleet of 884 commercial aircraft, Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi revealed, adding that the authority was working on replanning routes to neighbouring countries.
This will increase airspace capacity and generate annual financial savings of AED 50 million ($14 million) for carriers.
It is worth noting that Dubai will host the first edition of the Global Investment in Aviation Summit "GIAS 2019", which will take place in Dubai between 28 and 30 January 2019.
The three-day event will host aviation ministers and heads of civil aviation authorities from around the world as well offer an ideal platform for aviation ministers, airline companies and professionals to keep them up-to-date with the latest developments in the airline industry.
