Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: UAE total bank deposits declined by AED 500 million to AED 1.47 trillion by the end of January, according to the country’s central bank.
In a recent report by the bank, the fall in deposits was attributed to an AED 6.2 billion decline in non-residents’ deposits, while residents’ deposits rose AED 5.7 billion.
The UAE’s total bank assets rose 0.2% to AED 2.48 trillion by the end of last January, compared to AED 2.474 trillion by the end of December 2015.
Assets denominated in foreign currencies contracted 13% to reach AED 297 billion in January, against AED 341 billion last December.
Total cash and bank balances abroad also fell 29% to AED 122.2 billion from AED 171.8 billion.
