UAE bank lending hikes 5% in 2018

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Loans provided by banks operating in the UAE grew 5%, or AED 76.3 billion, during the full-year 2018, according to a report released by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE).

The GCC nation’s bank lending increased to AED 16.56 trillion last year, compared to AED 15.80 trillion in 2017.

Total credit facilities provided to the private sector surged 4% to AED 11.30 trillion by the end of December 2018, against AED 10.86 trillion in the prior year.

Meanwhile, the UAE bank lending to the government sector rose 9% to AED 19.1 trillion at the end of 2018, compared to AED 17.5 trillion in the previous year.
