UAE cuts holdings of US Treasuries in June

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE has reduced its holdings of the US Treasuries by 3.2% month-on-month to $51.5 billion in June 2019, from $53.2 billion in May, according to the US Department of the Treasury’s recent data.

On a yearly basis, the Gulf country’s investments in US debt instruments declined by 13.6%, or $8.1 billion, in June, when compared with $59.6 billion in the same month a year earlier.

The UAE ranked 22nd among the foreign holders of the US Treasuries, while Japan came on the top with investments worth $1.122 trillion, followed by China with $1.112 trillion. 

As for the Arab countries, the UAE ranked second after Saudi Arabia, which topped the Arab holders of the US debt instruments with $179.6 billion.
