Dubai – Mubasher: The volume of diamond trade in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) reached 140 million karat at a value of AED 55 billion ($15 billion) in the first ten months of 2016, executive chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Authority said.
Ahmed Sultan Bin Sulayem added on the sidelines of the Kimberley Process (KP) plenary on Monday, that 99.8% of diamond trade globally became clean.
Bin Sulayem further said that KP organization is working on protecting the marketing from the flow of the "conflict zones" diamond, so as to keep this trade 100% clean without any interference for political conflicts or military finance.
The executive chairman noted that during the last ten months, UAE offered a number of historical initiatives and suggestions which targets promoting KP missions, in addition to focusing on Africa to assure that the diamond-producing countries in the continent get their fair share of this trade.
The United Nations (UN) established KP in 2003; it is a triple cooperation initiative between governments, diamond industry and the civil society.
The 2016 chairing of KP was officially handed over to the UAE in November last year.
