Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation is pushing ahead with its plans to operate the GCC nation’s first nuclear plant at the beginning of 2020, the authority’s director general said.
The authority is awaiting Nawah, the plant’s operator, to announce its technical readiness to operate the plant, Christer Viktorsson told a news conference on Wednesday.
The official further indicated that the state-run body will not grant a licence to Nawah until it meets regulatory approvals.
Viktorsson expected Nawah to be ready to start work by the end of next year.
“We are continuing to review the application of the operator to start Barakah,” the authority’s director general said.
