UAE investments in Space industry reached AED20bn

Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: The UAE Space Agency is currently working on regulating the space sector, with the aim of issuing the law in 2017, the agency Director General, Mohammed Al Ahbabi, told Mubasher on Wednesday.

Last year we issued the National Space Sector Policy, and we are currently working on a law that protects companies and supports investments, Al Ahbabi added.

Al Ahbabi also noted that the goal is to support the stability and the sustainable development of the sector, as well as the partnerships between the public, commercial, and academic sectors, and to enhance the level of infrastructure and technological advancement, and to create an organized competitive environment that is attractive for business.

The director of the Emirati space agency indicated that the volume of the UAE investment is currently at AED 20 billion, adding that the space industry is seeing an annual growth of 10% in the country compared to the international average of 8%.

Investments are distributed among three major companies, Thuraya, Al Yah Satellite Communications, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre, which is responsible for the Mars exploration project and the Hope spacecraft.
