Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Assets of national banks in the UAE rose by 1.9% to amount to AED 2.129 trillion during the first half of 2016, according to recent statistics issued by the UAE central bank.
Foreign banks’ assets decreased by 0.1% to reach AED 3889 billion in H1-16.
The banking sector in the UAE includes 23 national banks and 35 foreign banks, according to the statistics.
The credit granted by the UAE national banks increased by 4.8% to AED 1.337 trillion, while foreign banks’ credit shrank by 1.2% to AED 206.9 billion.
Provisions for default loans in foreign banks rose by 7.2% to AED 17.9 billion, while in the UAE banks provisions levelled up by 3.6% to AED billion during H1-16.
