Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The new Sharjah-Khor Fakkan Road was inaugurated by Sharjah ruler Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi and Ras Al Khaima ruler Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi on Saturday, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).

Established at a cost of AED 6 billion ($1.63 billion), the new 89-kilometre Sharjah-Khor Fakkan Road project is expected to cut travel time between the two cities to 45 minutes.

In addition, the new road consists of 14 intersections, seven underground crossings and five tunnels including the 1300-metre Al Rough Tunnel, 900-metre Al Ghazir Tunnel, 300-metre Al Saha Tunnel, 1300-metre Al Saqb Tunnel, and 2700-metre Al Sidra Tunnel, the Middle East’s longest covered mountain tunnel.
