Dubai - Mubasher: Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) is awaiting the UAE council of minsters’ approval of the new electric cars law, according to the authority’s director general, Abdulla Al Maeeni.
ESMA finished preparing the draft law two months ago, with aim to promote the use of environmentally-friendly cars in the country, Al Maeeni told reporters on Wednesday on the sidelines of the announcing the third International Conference on Future Mobility (ICFM 2017), which will be lauched in Dubai on 7 November.
The law will be the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Al Maeeni also noted that the authority is currently discussing the needed rules and regulations for self-driving vehicles.
The ICFM will be held in Dubai, from 7 to 8 November 2017, and will be hosted by ESMA. It is the region’s largest and most influential annual gathering of leaders in smart, clean, intelligent and connected mobility, according to an official statement.
This year, with a sharp focus on the theme “Towards Sustainable and Intelligent Mobility”, the International Conference on Future Mobility is set to be a unique platform for industry leaders to get together and lay foundations for the next growth and market adaptation phase for smart, sustainable and connected transport in the region.
The event will feature discussions about driving mobility into a sustainable and intelligent future, with more than 350 participating specialists from around the world, representing Emirati and international institutions, manufacturers, telecom companies, distributors, alongside analysts and public officials, as well as a list of 35 panelists and speakers.
Attendees will be able to try for the first time some futuristic, Al Maeeni revealed.
The conference will be bringing flagship companies, including Tesla, Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, Volvo, BMW, Cadillac, Kia, Renault, and Mercedes-Benz.
