Mubasher: Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) on Tuesday announced that it concluded an agreement with Indonesian power utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara’s (PLN) unit to develop a floating photovoltaic power plant.
Masdar and PLN’s unit PT Pembangkitan Jawa Bali (PJB) are planning to build a 200-megawatt floating photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Cirata dam, in West Java, Indonesia with a total cost of $300 million, according to a company statement.
The first 50-MW phase of the project is planned to be completed in the second quarter of 2019, while the second 150-MW phase is scheduled to be finalized by the beginning of 2020, Masdar revealed.
“The project, which would occupy about 225 hectares of the Cirata hydroelectric plant reservoir will accelerate renewable energy development in Indonesia, said PJB’s CEO Iwan Agung Firstantara.
“Additional incentives were needed to make the project viable,” Arcandra Tahar, deputy energy and mineral resources minister, commented, referring to tax allowances and tax treaties between the UAE and Indonesia, along with other incentives.
The project’s developers should keep its power generation cost below the regional average, Tahar added.
