UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority launches digital radio

UAE – Mubasher: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) on Sunday announced it has launched its digital radio on the Internet.

Through TRA digital radio, the authority aims at reaching its customers and inform them of its achievements and services as well as its latest developments in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, according to a press release.

By launching the digital radio, the TRA seeks to reach a wider audience, including people of determination with visual impairments.

Audiences from all over the world can listen to the radio around the clock, the TRA highlighted.

Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, director-general of the TRA, said: “In line with our wise leadership directives, TRA ensures to be closer to customers, and to stay in touch with them around the clock by activating more channels of communication. We have made great efforts in the development of TRA website. We also ensure to provide distinctive and creative content on our social media channels.”

“Today, we launch the online radio to complement the image with the voice in order to give our customers a comprehensive idea of TRA and its key role in regulating one of the most vital sectors of our time,” Al Mansoori added.

He also stressed that the digital radio was launched by the TRA as a response to the needs of the people of determination with visual disabilities, whether they are blind or visually impaired.

“Our children, brothers and sisters from people of determination may not be able to follow TRA news published in newspapers, website or social media, and hence the importance of radio, which is an ideal solution for our visually impaired children to follow TRA news and services, especially smart services that they can use anywhere and anytime,” he indicated.

The TRA digital radio will provide listeners with the authority’s latest news, monthly reports, and statistics in the ICT sector, in addition to the TRA’s most important updates to policies, regulations, and terms and conditions.

In the second phase of the radio, specifically after the fourth quarter of 2019, the radio will have live interactive broadcast aimed at identifying the customers’ views about TRA services and taking their inquiries and suggestions, through the allocation of live broadcast hours.

Prior to the fourth quarter of 2019, the radio is scheduled to broadcast interactive lives to identify the customers’ views on services provided by the TRA and take their inquiries and suggestions. Responses to these inquires will be carried out through the call centre.

The launch of TRA digital radio comes in line with the launch of the TV programme of the digital government aiming at introducing the audience to the UAE Government and the services it offers through all available channels.
