Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE’s first nuclear power plant is expected to begin operating after obtaining licences to transport and store nuclear fuel in May 2017.
The energy complex is complete by more than 75 %, Christer Viktorsson, director general of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), said in a press conference in Abu Dhabi.
The second nuclear plant is scheduled for operation in 2018, while the third and fourth plans will start working in 2019 and 2019 respectively.
The UAE aims to save up to 12 million tons in carbon emissions every year through the nuclear plant.
