Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE has started the activation of Article 14 of the labour law that gives Emiratis priority or precedence over expats when it comes to employment, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE).
The article states that non-UAE citizens are not allowed to be employed in case of having an unemployed Emirati.
The enforcement of the law will boost job opportunities for qualified Emirati job-seekers and also serve the interests of employers.
More than 80% of the ministry’s efforts are focused on Emiratisation and following up on companies' progress in this regard.
The labour permit system will be connected to the ministry's database, which will help activate the provision of the law that grants qualified Emiratis priority.
The move will ensure that a qualified Emirati is not overlooked before granting a work permit to a non-Emirati.
