UAE to build AED 8bn power plant

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) on Monday announced its plans to establish a clean-coal power plant of 1800-megawatt capacity, worth AED 8 billion.

The new plant will cover 50% of the consumers’ needs in the country, director general Mohammed Saleh said, according to Al Emarat Al Youm newspaper.

The FEWA communicated with developers to participate in the power plant tender, Saleh added.

The authority completed drafting tender requirements, and it will be launched in the first week of November, Saleh noted.

The power plant is expected to be connected to the grid in the second quarter of 2021, Saleh continued.

The location of the project will be decided after conferring with RAK Maritime City, and it will use the latest technology to ensure compliance with environmental standards, director general added.
