Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE’s Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has inked a concession agreement with Emirates RDF Company to establish a waste recycling plant.
The new project aims at developing a waste-to-fuel facility using 1,000 tonnes per day of the waste of 550,000 residents from Ajman and Umm Al Quwain that can be used later in generating a refuse-derived fuel (RDF), Arabian Business reported on Wednesday.
The RDF product will be used as a source of fuel in cement factories.
Construction works for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) project will start in December and is likely to start operations by April 2020.
Overall cost of the project is valued at $40 million, co-funded by the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, the report added.
“It contributes to the UAE realizing its ambitious sustainability goals and it helps cement plants decreasing their use of fossil fuels,” Nico de Koning, project manager of BESIX Concessions & Assets Middle East.
