Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: The UAE government is considering the new set of rules approved by the European Parliament regarding competition in the EU civil aviation market, the General Civil Aviation Authority’s (GCAA) general manager Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi stated on Wednesday.
The fresh rules aimed at protecting EU carriers and promoting fair competition in the civil aviation market.
The UAE will take any required measures if the new rules took their toll on the Emirati carriers, Al Suwaidi told Al Bayan newspaper, noting that these rules are not final.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) should define “fair competition”, he said.
The allegation, raised by some foreign civil aviation companies, that they face severe and unfair competition due to the UAE government support of its national carriers must not persuade the European decision-makers, the general manager commented.
Such allegations stem sometimes from failure, he remarked.
Al Suwaidi stressed that the UAE-based carriers presented a tonne of evidence prove that they do not receive any subsidies or support from the government and that they are not in a favourable position at the expense of others, Al Bayan reported.
Our carriers grow and expand rapidly, which is not always a good news for their competitors, who strive to hinder their development, the top official added.
