Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt will receive around 100 locomotives from the US-based General Electric (GE) in the second half of 2019.
The American firm will deliver 81 locomotives next November within the framework of the $575 million agreement signed with the Egyptian government, Egypt’s Cabinet announced in a statement.
The Cabinet will coordinate with Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) to manufacture and supply 140 carriages, equivalent to 20 carriages a month, the statement added.
The Cabinet also has a plan to upgrade approximately 40 passengers’ cars a month of suburban railways in collaboration with AOI.
In March, Egyptian president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that Egypt was looking forward to boosting GE’s investments in the country in light of the attractive economic climate.
