US McDermott wins 2 Marjan oil field contracts from Saudi Aramco

Riyadh - Mubasher: US-based contractor McDermott was awarded two engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) contracts from Saudi Aramco.

The Texas-based contractor’s “substantial” EPCI contract is valued between $500 million and $750 million, McDermott said in a statement.

Under the deal, McDermott will establish a 65-kilometre offshore pipeline and provide design, procurement, fabrication, installation, testing, and pre-commissioning services for an offshore tie-in platform at the Marjan oil field in Saudi Arabia.

The US contractor will also provide the same services for six lift topside modules and subsea cabling which will weigh up to 27,000 tonnes.

McDermott also secured a “large” EPCI contract valued between $50 million and $250 million for upgrading two platforms at Marjan for Saudi Aramco, it said.

The deal includes the installation of associated equipment for electrical submersible pumps (ESPs) and space for a high-integrity pressure protection system (HIPPS), subsea composite cable lay and topside cable tie-ins which might be created in the future.

The announcement made on Tuesday coincided with McDermott's financial results release for 2018, which showed $2.7 billion loss on the back of a rise in costs of projects in Mexico and the US.
