US OKs $1.2bn weapons sale to Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: The US has agreed to sell 10 of AH-64E Apache helicopter to Egypt at a value of $1 billion.

The US also will sell ammunition for Egypt’s military battle tanks at a cost of $201 million, according to the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

The most populous Arab country aims to expand its existing fleet of multi-mission heavy attack helicopters in a response to the US-Egyptian interest in countering terrorism in the Sinai Peninsula, the DSCA added.

The American agency highlighted that this transaction will enable Egypt to upgrade its abilities, in line with improving interoperability between Egypt, the US, and other allies.

The Congress has the right to reject the transaction within 30 days, otherwise, it will automatically be valid.
