Uber, DoT ink deal to relaunch services in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi – Mubasher: Uber Technologies Inc on Monday announced that it has signed a deal with Abu Dhabi’s Department of Transportation (DoT) to relaunch its services again in the UAE’s capital and biggest sheikhdom.

“This agreement underlines our commitment to achieving the forward-looking vision and aspirations of our wise leadership in transforming Abu Dhabi into a global leader in smart transportation,” Mohammed Darwish Al Qamzi, general manager of the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), commented.

Under the agreement, Emiratis are allowed to drive on the US ride-hailing app using their private vehicles on a full-time or part-time basis.

Al Qamzi added that the deal will provide reliable and convenient transportation solutions to both residents and visitors in Abu Dhabi.

“All private/public vehicles and driver partners are supervised under ITC’s regulations and meet the required standards and licensing requirements,” Al Qamzi said.

Regional manager of Uber Middle East Anthony Khoury said that Abu Dhabi is one of the important market in the GCC country to serve as catalysts for economic growth, and for Emiratis to be able to drive on the Uber app using their private vehicles.

“With the re-launch of our services in the Emirate, and the launch of Uber Eats there earlier this year, we can cater to local demand and remain committed to our goal of providing efficient and innovative solution to the communities we operate in,” Khoury noted.
