Uber plans to invest $100m in Egypt in 5 yrs

Cairo – Mubasher: Investment and international cooperation minister Sahar Nasr has discussed with some of Uber’s officials the expansion of the US ride-hailing company in Egypt, with a plan to pump $100 million (EGP 1.791 billion) in the Arab world's most populous country over the next five years.

Nasr reiterated the government’s constant support to foreign firms in a bid to encourage them to expand and maximise their investment in Egypt.

The investment climate in Egypt has seen major improvments, Uber’s senior vice president Tony West said, noting that his company had chosen Cairo to be the first city in the world to use Uber Bus service.

In early December, the US ride-hailing app announced the launch of a bus service, Uber Bus, in the Egyptian capital.
