UAE – Mubasher: Sandooq Al Watan and University of Sharjah signed research agreements to launch a project to develop an antiviral drug against coronavirus (COVID-19).
The project is aimed at designing a dual-inhibitor antiviral drug against COVID-19 by blocking major enzymes required for viral infection, according to a statement by Abu Dhabi Media Office on Sunday.
“The new proposed product will provide a platform to overcome any possible drug resistance or evolved future viral outbreaks.”
The project is part of three grants provided by Sandooq Al Watan to research projects to help the GCC nation in its fight against the pandemic.
Sandooq Al Watan is an initiative launched by a group of Emirati businessmen to support research projects in the country.
The UAE’s Ministry of Health and Prevention confirmed 390 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bring the tally to 67,007.
The death toll stood at 375, while the number of recoveries reached 58,488.
